Abrasions
An abrasion is a process of wearing away of the upper layer of skin as a result of applied friction force. It is a superficial damage than an excoriation. An injury usually takes place as a result of skin coming in contact (as in scraping) with a rough surface and may cause slight bleeding. Severe abrasions may cause tissue scarring.
Treatment / Home Remedy for Abrasion
While a severe case of abrasion needs the proper treatment of a physician, mild scraping of skin can easily be done single-handedly. Normally, an abrasion is treated by cleaning the wound using mild soap and water, with the help of an antiseptic wash afterwards. To help the skin heal itself, it is followed by applying an antibiotic treatment to the wound and finishes it with dry dressing.
Cleaning an abrasion
Cleaning the wound is very important to avoid future complications like infection. Cleaning an abrasion is the first and foremost step towards avoiding infection and accelerates healing. Any remaining dirt fragments should be carefully removed by holding the wound under running water or by applying an antiseptic solution to it. You can use a piece of cotton gauze and gently scrub the affected area. Dress the wound using sterile gauze, cotton and an antibiotic cream or powder. This dressing needs to be changed at least daily to speed up the healing process.
Avoiding infection due to abrasions

Adults who have never been vaccinated against tetanus should get a series of three injections of Td over six to 12 months and then follow it with the 10-year booster shot schedule to avoid further complications.
