  • Alcoholism

Posted by User ImageRemedy Solution on 31st, 2007

Alcoholism is a chronic illness wherein the person involved has difficulty in abstaining their selves from excessive alcohol consumption despite the negative health concerns it is associated with.

    Causes of Alcoholism

Alcoholism is acquired by taking occasional sips of alcoholic drinks until it becomes a habit where a person becomes fairly addicted to it and cannot miss a day without alcohol consumption. Influences includes social pressure during social parties or gatherings, while for others, being intoxicated with alcohol enables them to handle stress.

    Alcoholism Treatment

    Using Grapes:
Most notable home remedy for alcoholism is a strict diet made of grapes for a month or more. It is an ideal yet healthy substitute for alcohol since grapes are the raw material for most alcoholic drinks. It should then be taken as a form of dessert three times a day at five-hour intervals.

    Using Apples:
Eating a generous amount of apples detoxify the body and help reduce the craving for wines and other liquors.

    Using Dates:
A drink made from four to five dates mixed with half a glass of water is an effective remedy for curing alcoholism if taken twice daily for a month.

    Using Bitter Gourd:
The juice extracted from the leaves of bitter gourd makes a powerful antidote for it fixes the liver damaged due to excessive alcohol consumption. Mix three teaspoons of bitter gourd juice with a glass of buttermilk. This should be taken every morning for a month.

    Using Celery:
The juice made from raw celery sobers an already intoxicated patient. To create this juice, mix half a glass of celery juice with half a glass of water. This should be taken once daily for a month.

    Diet for alcoholism recovery

The body’s resistance to stimulants can be achieved by strengthening the immune system. The patient should take an all-juice diet for at least ten days so as to help lessen the patient’s craving for alcohol. While undertaking this diet, patients should take several small meals a day instead of the usual three meals. They should also take plenty of rest and perform some outdoor physical exercises.

After taking the juice diet, the patient should take an optimum diet consisting of food containing the vital nutrients such as wholegrain cereals, nuts, seeds and sprouts, fresh fruits and vegetables. It is advisable that the patient should be given a suitable food substitute at the start of this treatment if the person yearns for alcohol. The best substitute drink for alcohol is a glass of fresh fruit juice. If the patient is craving for a stimulant, he should be given fresh fruit juices or be allowed to have snacks such as candies.

Meats, pastas, sugar and condiments, white rice and flour and other kinds of refined and processed foods should be clearly avoided.

Other suggestions and herbal treatments for alcoholism

The first step in breaking this drinking habit is the determination of the patient to stop it himself. It should start by firmly believing in quitting the alcoholic addiction so that patient could easily carry out the next steps.

A warm-water enema should be taken during the first ten days of the juice diet. As been pointed out before, take plenty of rest and perform outdoor physical exercises.

Cut the smoking habit if the patients ever have one, for it increases the cravings for alcohol.
