Angina attack is characterized by an acute chest pain, it is also called angina pectoris. The presence discomfort around the chest area due to narrowing of the arteries. Angina can also caused by blocking of arteries, and thickening of heart muscles. More blood supply that passes through narrow arteries causes discomfort and leads to Angina.

Three types:

Stable angina – chronic stable angina
Unstable angina – can initiate heart attack
Variant angina or Prinzmetal’s angina – rare type caused by spasm of the coronary artery

Symptoms

  • Pressure
  • Tightening
  • Squeezing
  • Burning sensation
  • Pain in the chest area
  • Discomfort in the chest area
  • Pain in the arms, shoulders, throat, neck, jaw or back regions
  • Also appears like indigestion

Other symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Palpitations
  • Excessive sweating
  • Shortening of breath

Causes

  • Obstructive coronary vascular disease
  • Fat deposits on the blood vessels of the heart
  • blood clots that blocks the arteries

Other causes:

  • Anemia
  • Diabetes
  • Polycythemia
  • Heavy smoking
  • Drug use (e.g. cocaine)
  • Heavy meals
  • Physical exertion
  • Emotional stress
  • Uncontrolled blood pressure
  • Thyroid glands related diseases
  • Other types of heart diseases

Treatment

Vitamin A, C, E:
Increase in intake of foods high in vitamins A, C, E or take food vitamin supplements

Exercise
Exercise regularly and stay fit and active

Higher intake of fiber and vegetables, whole grains and fruits

Prevention

Avoid stress
Sleep in timely manner
Exercise regularly
Avoid sedentary lifestyle
Regular check up and maintaining blood pressure in normal level
Avoid fatty and cholesterol rich foods
