Bronchitis
It is the inflammation of the mucous membrane in bronchial tubes of the lungs. It may appear in an acute of chronic form. In chronic and severe cases of bronchitis, the disease is acquired and experienced by the patient for a long period of time.
Symptoms
The bronchial tubes are inflamed, causing large amount of mucus secretion and is discharged as sticky phlegm.
Feverish condition, accompanied by difficulty in breathing and coughing are some visible symptoms of bronchitis.
The patient also suffers from hoarseness of their voice, at the same time having chest pains, and loss in appetite.
Causes
Excessive smoking weakens the immune system of the bronchial tubes, making it vulnerable to bacterial infection from the air pollution.
Working inside a smoky room, over dosage of prescribed or illegal drugs, drastic weather changes, and heredity are some of the other causes of bronchitis.
Home Remedies
Turmeric: Mix half a teaspoon of turmeric powder with half a glass of milk. Drink the mixture 2 or 3 x everyday on an empty stomach.
Ginger: Mix half a teaspoon each of ginger, pepper, and cloves and drink it 3 x a day. You can also add some honey, or infuse it with tea. This mixture has antipyretic qualities that are effective in reducing fever while strengthening the metabolism of the patient.
Onion: Make 1 teaspoon of raw onion juice first thing in the morning. Onions are expectorant that liquefy phlegm and prevents it from coming back.
Spinach: Mix 50 gm of fresh spinach leaves, 250 ml of water, a pinch of ammonium chloride and 1 teaspoonful of honey.
Sesame Seeds: Make an infusion consisting of 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon of linseed, a pinch of rock salt and 1 teaspoon of honey. Drink it once every night. You can also try mixing half a teaspoon of powdered sesame seeds with 2 tablespoons of water. Drink it as a whole or take only half a teaspoon twice everyday.
Almonds: Make an emulsion by mixing 7 powdered almond kernels with a cup of orange of lemon juice. Take it once daily or every night.
Chicory: Mix half a teaspoon of powdered chicory or endives roots with 1 teaspoonful of honey. This expectorant should be taken 3 x everyday to cure chronic bronchitis.
Linseed: Make a hot linseed poultice by mixing 1 cup or 16 tablespoons of linseeds with hot water, just enough to make it into a moist mass. Apply the prepared poultice carefully at the chest and at the upper back. You can rub turpentine in the chest area of the patient.
Diet
Orange Juice Diet: For acute bronchitis, undertake an all-orange juice diet mix with water until all symptoms subsided. Follow with an all-fruit diet the 2 or 3 days.
Fruit Diet: For chronic bronchitis, take on an all-fruit diet along with the usual 3 meals for 5-7 days. Follow with a well-balanced diet consisting of seeds, nuts, grains, fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Drink unsweetened lemon juice or cold/hot plain water.
Other Treatments
Epsom Salt Bath: Prepare this bath by dissolving 1 ½ kg of Epsom salt in 60 liters of water, with a temperature of 37.8°C. For acute cases, soak the patient in this bath for 20 minutes every night, or every other night. For chronic cases, take this bath once a week.
Hot and Cold Towel Application: For both acute and chronic bronchitis, apply 3 hot towels for 2 or 3 minutes each, and then finish it off with a cold tower. Apply a cold pack with linen material on cold water, wrap it 2 or 3x around the affected part and cover it with a flannel cloth. Leave it for an hour on the upper chest several times daily in acute conditions.
Yoga: Study yoga and perform some Yogic Kriyas (or cleansing exercises) such as jalneti and vamandhauti, and Yogic Asanas (or body postures) such as ekpaduttanasana, yogamudra, bhujangasana, shalabhasana, padmasana, and shavasana. Pranayamas (or breath-holding procedures) such as kapalbhati, anuloma-viloma, ujjai, and bhramari are also helpful in relieving bronchitis.
Take a morning walk every day to get some fresh air and while doing some outdoor exercises at the same time.
