Anorexia is a disease acquired through losing one’s appetite. Skipping meals upsets the digestive tract, making the body weak and prone to other forms of illnesses. Failure of the stomach to secrete gastric juices lowers a person’s vitality, which ultimately leads to this disease.

Symptoms
Person who suffers from anorexia may refuse to eat, and this condition may lead to severe emaciation in the course of time.

Causes
An individual may suffer from this disease if they do less physical work and oftenly take a defective diet.

Domestic worries, nervous disorders, emotional stress, and work pressures leads to general body disorders, which further complicates to anorexia.

Home Remedies
Treatment using Oranges:
Oranges stimulate the flow of digestive juices, thereby improving digestion and bringing back the loss of appetite. Consuming one or two oranges a day are advisable for effective treatment of Anorexia.

Treatment using Sour Grapes:
Use sour grape juices as ingredient when making chapatis or Indian flatbread. Eating the bread continuously for 2 to 3 weeks will help tone up the stomach and improve the appetite.

Treatment using Lime:
For restoring lost appetite, prepare a mixture of about one teaspoon of limejuice, one teaspoon of ginger juice, and then add a gram of rock salt. It should be left exposed to sunlight for three days. Take a teaspoon after every meal, it will help tone up the digestive system and improve the appetite.

Treatment using Apples:
Apples stimulate the flow of pepsin, a protein-digesting enzyme in the stomach, and are useful for easy digestion. Just like how the old saying goes, ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’.

Treatment using Garlic:
Garlic soups stimulate the tone of the digestive system and helps improve the appetite. To make garlic soup, boil three or four cloves of raw garlic in a cup of water. To make it more effective, add lemon juice and consume the soup twice daily.

Treatment using Ginger:
Ginger helps in bringing back loss appetite. To use ginger as treatment, ground about five grams of ginger, then add a pinch of salt while licking it. Do it once a day.

Diet
An effective treatment for anorexia is a thorough cleansing of the digestive tract, adapting an all-juice diet, and a change of lifestyle. To begin this diet, the patient should not eat anything for 3-5 days, drinking only a glass of orange juice and water. Get a glass of warm water and add orange juice in it every two hours, during 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Do not consume anything other than the prescribed mixture while under this treatment. If the orange juice diet fails to work, you can try drinking only water; or take half a glass of carrot juice mixed with an equal quantity of water instead.

After the all-juice diet, the patient may continue taking an all-fruit diet for the next five days. Take three meals a day, consisting only of juicy fruits, such as apples, pears, grapes, grape-fruit, oranges, pineapple, peaches, and melons. These meals should be taken at five-hour intervals.

Afterwards, the patient may also adapt a restricted diet of easily-digestible foods, consisting of lightly cooked vegetables, juicy fruits, and buttermilk for about ten days.

Other Treatments
Warm-water enema:
Using a warm-water enema, the bowels should be cleanse each day during the first 3-5 days of the juice diet. This self-cleansing procedure will eliminate the poisonous toxins.

Ice bag application on stomach:
Place an ice bag over the stomach for half an hour before meals, and take a cool bath once or twice daily.

Cool hip bath, Sun and cool air bath:
Take a sun or cool air baths. An early morning sun bath, taken once a day, should be alternated with an early morning cool air bath the next day.

It also advisable to maintain an active outdoor lifestyle. Massaging the abdomen once in a while will also help cure anorexia.
