Bacterial Vaginitis
Bacterial Vaginitis is a form of vaginal infection that occurs during the reproductive years. It may be acquire through sexual intercourse although it is not an STD. Lesbians are the common target of this disease through exchange of vaginal fluids.
Symptoms
Common symptoms include a visible change in the color and odor of vaginal discharges; slight bleeding, itching or irritation of the vagina. There is also discomfort due to pains during urination.
After sexual intercourse, the patient may notice grayish white vaginal discharges accompanied by a stinking smell.
Causes
Overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria is the main cause of this disease. When the number of Gardnerella Vaginalis and Mobiluncus increases than those of Lactobacillus bacteria, it causes and imbalance, hence the name Bacterial Vaginitis.
Continuous sexual intercourse in a short period of time raises the vaginal pH which results to infection and reproduction of these bacteria.
Maintaining prolonged moisture in the vaginal area by using synthetic clothing without proper absorbent materials builds the risk of this disease.
Applying commercially-available feminine products with too many harsh chemicals may cause irritation.
Taking antibiotics without proper prescription from the doctor will disrupt bacterial balance in the feminine area.
Remedies
Treating Naturally:
- Eat yogurt or apply it directly in the feminine area. As an alternative, soak an unused tampon in a bowl of yogurt before inserting it during monthly periods.
- Consuming garlic or applying it directly in the affected will help with its antibacterial and antifungal properties.
- A calendula herb helps reduce inflammation.
- Tea tree oil, black walnut, Echinacea and golden seal herbs are effective in treating vaginitis.
- Raise the acidity levels of vaginal pH by using boric acid in douche form.
- Make a calendula douche by adding 12 teaspoon of calendula herbs to a pot of boiling water, stir it and let it chill before using it.
- Soak an unused tea bag in cool water. Let it cool by placing it inside the refrigerator before using it in the feminine area.
- Soak a tea bag in water and cool it in refrigerator and then apply it to the feminine area.
Diet
- Have a healthy diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables, and flax seed oil.
- Drink lots of water everyday.
- Include meat, poultry and fish in your daily diet.
- Eat foods containing whole grains.
- Avoid alcoholic drinks, caffeine, sweets containing too much sugar, processed foods and foods high in saturated fats.
Other Treatments
- Maintain good body hygiene with consistent washing of the feminine area and changing to clean under garments made of cotton.
- Always take a warm bath instead of a cold one.
- Avoid using scented tampons for it contains irritants.
- Use contraceptives during sexual intercourse. Always clean the feminine area thoroughly afterwards.
- Avoid douching when rinsing as it results to an imbalance in the vaginal pH.
- Clean diaphragms, cervical caps and spermicide applicators after each use.
- Prevent the spread of intestinal bacteria to the feminine area by thorough cleaning of the anal.
