Chicken pox is caused by a varicella roster virus (or VRV) and is a highly contagious disease. It is a common illness that affects children between 3-4 years old. Elder patients experiences harsh symptoms on their body.

Symptoms
Chicken pox usually shows up with a mild fever, headache, and body weakness. Rashes appear mostly in the chest or upper back in the form of small, red bumps. During extreme cases, it multiplies successively until it reaches the face and lower extremities with the papules turning to blisters, later forming into scabs before falling off. After it clears the skin, the patient will return to normal and start feeling better.

It usually occurs between 14-17 days. It could reach from 10-21 days depending on the severity of the condition.

Causes
The chicken pox disease is caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), or human herpes virus 3 (HHV-3). It may cause skin eruption later in life known as shingles (or herpes roster), even when properly treated with vaccination during childhood.

Malnutrition weakens the immune system of body, which makes the child more prone to this disease.

Home Remedies
Brown vinegar: Mix a half-cup of brown vinegar during warm water bath to help relieve the irritation of the skin.

Oatmeal: Prepare an oatmeal bath by mixing 2 cups of cooked oatmeal to 2 liters of water for 15 minutes. Put this mixture in a cotton cloth bag and close it tightly. Soak the bag in the tub until the water becomes thick or muddy. The patient can bath and play in the water while keeping the bag safe.

Green peas: Cooked some decent amount of green peas in water. Apply the cooked water in the affected area to relieve skin irritations.

Baking soda: Put some baking soda in a glass of water. Sponge the patient using the mixture. Let it dry. This will help prevent the patient from scratching their skin.

Vitamin E oil: Rub vitamin E oil on the skin. This will the make post-recovery scars and marks to disappear.

Honey: Smear the skin with honey to help heal chicken pox within 3 days.
Carrots and coriander: Cut about 100 gm of carrots and 60 gm of fresh corianders into small pieces then boil it in water. Remove cooked vegetables. Use the remaining water as a soup and take it once a day.

Herbal teas: Prepare a mild sedative herbal tea using chamomile, basil leaves, marigold leaves and lemon balm. Add a little cinnamon, honey and lemon. Take 1 teaspoon slowly several times a day.

Diets
Drink plenty of fruits and vegetables juices for a few days. Try lemon juice for faster healing.

If the condition improves, take on an all-fruit diet for the next days. Then eat more fresh fruits and vegetables afterwards.

Other Treatments
Warm-water enema: Administer a small warm-water enema everyday while undergoing a juice diet.

Natural ventilation: Chicken pox weakens the external eye tissues. Put the patient in a room with proper ventilation while allowing little or no direct light from the room, or apply room treatments to subdue the light coming in.

Mud packs: Apply mud packs on the abdomen twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, to help relieve the patient from the condition. Also, apply some mudpacks on the chest area.

Neem baths: Add neem leaves to a tub filled with lukewarm water. Bathe in it everyday to relieve itching.

Nail clipper: Scratching transfers more bacteria to the blisters so trim the patient’s nails regularly to keep it clean and free from infection.
