Cure Common Colds Naturally
It’s that time of the year again, so I thought I’d do one on common colds:
Everybody experiences common colds every once in a while. For some people, experiencing cold symptoms is part of the daily routine. Even then, the runny nose, the watery eyes, the headaches, and the overall feeling of weakness can be pretty annoying.
Fortunately, colds are so common that there are quite a lot of home remedies to treat it without having to seek medical attention or go to the drugstore.
The Lemon Cure
Lemon is believed to be a miracle cure for common colds. Loaded with Vitamin C, lemon can significantly increase your resistance and can help you recover from colds a lot faster. The ultimate lemon cure is to dilute the juice of one whole lemon with a whole glass of warm water. Add honey to it, and drink it twice a day.
Warm Garlic Soup
Another remedy for common colds is garlic soup. Garlic soup is made by chopping three or four cloves of garlic and then boiling it in a cup of water. Garlic is a known natural antibiotic, an antispasmodic, and an antiseptic, among many other health benefits. Eating garlic soup helps to open up the airways, thus relieving you of congestion.
Ginger Juice
Ginger is another safe and natural treatment for common colds. First, you need to cut around 10 grams of ginger into very small pieces, then boil them in a cup of water. Strain the mixture and add sugar or honey to it. The best way to drink it is when it is still hot. Ginger juice can reduce temperature as well, so it is highly recommended that you drink ginger juice if your colds are accompanied by fever.
The Tamarind and Pepper Combo
The tamarind and pepper combo is said to be very effective in treating common colds. First, dilute around 50 mg of tamarind in one 250 ml glass of water, and boil it together with a teaspoon of hot clarified butter, and half a teaspoon of pepper. Ideally, this should be taken three times a day.
Hydrate
Water is essential for well-being, and drinking lots of water when you have colds is even more important. Drinking fruit juices can also work wonders.
Rest
Then, of course, you have to take plenty of rest. Avoid doing anything strenuous if you are colds, especially if it is accompanied by fever. Do not read as well, or even watch TV, as it can be tiring to your eyes.
Avoid the Following Foods
The following foods are said to trigger attacks and/or worsen the condition, and must, therefore, be avoided: all kinds of solid foods, meats, eggs, fish, and starchy foods.
Deep Breathing and Fresh Air
Aside from all these, sufferers from colds are advised to engage in breathing exercises, and to expos themselves in fresh air.
Common colds are very easy to treat, and you do not even need a doctor’s prescription for this. As long as you have lemon, ginger, garlic, tamarind, pepper, and water available, you will recover a lot faster.

Remedy Solution

Thanks for the informative post on relieving cold/flu symptoms. I am interested in using natural solutions to health concerns instead of drugs. You mentioned several natural solutions that I not aware of. One of my old standby is a 50-50 mix of honey and white vinegar for sore throats and coughs.
