A Dysphagia occurs when the trachea is swollen, blocked or constricted due to choking on your food when having a meal. During this instance, the patient is unable to breath and experiences a painful sensation at the base of their throat. Home remedies can be applied until medical assistance is deemed necessary.

Â

Symptoms of Dysphagia

When an individual’s throat is blocked, the patient has difficulty in swallowing food particles, which turns to gagging and inability to speak clearly. Their faces turn on a bluish or purple color due to lack of oxygen. They feel pain in the chest, neck or abdomen. They will later feel the need to vomit, and have sudden dislike of solid foods.Â

Â

Other symptoms are increased drooling and high-pitched breathing.Â

Â

Causes of DysphagiaÂ

Â

Key causes of Dysphagia are due to eating too fast, swallowing food immediately without chewing them properly, food consumption despite intake of alcohol, and eating unconsciously.

Swallow an uncooked egg yolk and egg white. It can help remove Dysphagias.Â

Â

Drinking:

Drink plenty of liquids or water, or swallow whole bread. Wait for 30-60 minutes to remove Dysphagias.

Â

Rice:

Swallow a lump of boiled rice if the patient has fish bone trapped in their throat. The fish bone will sticky to the boiled rice and add more weight to the bone, pushing it downwards the throat to the stomach to be digested. Swallow a bread if rice is not available.Â

Â

Vinegar:

Gargle with a vinegar when choking on a larger piece of chicken or fish bone. The vinegar will make the bone soften and easy to swallow. Follow with swallowing a whole piece of bread or rice.Â

Â

Root of clematis:

Mix clematis root with vinegar and brown sugar. Sip while still hot. It will remove the trapped bone in the throat and will provide relief from irritation.Â

Â

Heimlich maneuver:

Wrap your arms around a person’s waist while standing behind him/her. Make a fist on one hand. Place the thumb above the person’s navel, just below the breastbone. Place your other hand on the fist and make an upward and inward thrust quickly. This movement will compress the lungs and expel any food particle that is trapped in between the airways. Do this treatment until the trapped object inside the throat is removed.Â

Diarrhea is not exactly a disease, but it often signals an underlying condition, such as food poisoning, allergy, IBS (or Irritable Bowel Syndrome), alcohol overdose, lactose intolerance, and the like.

There is usually stomach pain in diarrhea, and continuous passage of watery stools which can be very uncomfortable, and embarrassing, more so if you are off to an important meeting or engagement when it happens.

It is essential that you treat diarrhea before it worsens to prevent dehydration and loss of electrolytes which can lead to very serious complications.

Loperamide is always the drug of choice in treating diarrhea. Then again, there are natural and healthier ways of getting rid of it. Here are a dozen of the most common home remedies for diarrhea:

1. Drink a cup of chamomile tea. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory effects and has been found to work wonders in reducing the pain associated with diarrhea.

2. Blueberries and bilberries (minus the seeds) can stop diarrhea naturally.

3. The root bark of blackberry is said to be very powerful in treating diarrhea. Mix one teaspoon of the blackberry tincture with water every two to four hours to relieve yourself of the manifestations of diarrhea.

4. Vinegar is another miracle cure for diarrhea. Take one tablespoon of vinegar every hour until the diarrhea stops.

5. Ginger tea or juice can reduce stomach cramps associated with diarrhea.

6. Mint juice is also effective in treating diarrhea. Mix a teaspoon of mint juice with a teaspoon of lime juice and another teaspoon of honey.

7. Green bananas are also effective in treating diarrhea. Try eating a piece of green banana every two to four hours until you feel an improvement in your condition.

8. Cooked carrots can help a lot in providing the much needed bulk and in replenishing your body of the lost nutrients.

9. Some have sworn to have been relieved of diarrhea by drinking a cup of black coffee.

10. Others recommend drinking cooled water with a teaspoon of cinnamon and sugar to taste.

11. Hydration is very important when you have diarrhea. Drink water mixed with one teaspoon of salt and one teaspoon of sugar to restore the lost electrolytes.

12. Rest your stomach. Avoid taking in milk and milk products (with the exception of yogurt), beans, cabbage, bread and pasta.

We all know that most desserts can cause acne due to the high volume of sugars and carbohydrates in cakes, cookies, ice cream, chocolate and other unfortunately delicious treats. Of course if you eat a slice of cake for example, you might not see a difference. But a few more slices, that would depend on your body and some people will certainly notice and feel a difference in their skin. There are however ways to resolve a sweet tooth which is not only safe for your skin but will also improve your acne and parts of your body.

Green (Mung) bean dessert

Green beans (also known as Mung beans) has properties to remove the inner heat, similar to Green Tea and Chrysanthemum Tea. To prepare the Green beans, first wash and strain it like washing rice. Boil a pot of hot water and add the Green beans. Lower the temperature and slowly cook the Green beans for about an hour or until you see the beans open up. Afterwards to add flavor, either use soya milk with cane sugar or honey. Soya bean milk not only have isoflavones to prevent testosterone from being converted into DHT (dihydrotestosterone) resulting in breakouts, but some soya milk will also have lecithin which gives nutrition to your brain for improving memory. Keep in mind, Red beans on the contrary does not have the same properties as Green beans and will put stress to your liver. So be careful and avoid the Red bean with icecream dessert drinks in most restaurants. Green bean with hot soya milk, is a good way to keep warm and enjoy the winter rather than drinking hot chocolate. But since it’s the summer, it tastes just as good when served chilled. You can also add some small chunks of watermelon to also help fight acne while giving the drink more texture, and a pinch (only a pinch) of coconut powder to give it a unique smell and taste.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Ordinary dry skin is also known as xerosis. Although this kind of skin condition is usually not serious it can be uncomfortable and unsightly. The process of drying the skin is turning healthy cells into shriveled cells thus creating wrinkles. The more serious type of dry skin conditions associated with genetics in origin is called ichthyosis.

Causes of Dry Skin

long-term use of air conditioning or central heating

exposure to hot or cold weather with low humidity levels

Symptoms of Dry Skin

Redness

Rough Skin

Skin tightness

Fine lines or cracks

Flaking, scaling or peeling

shrunken or dehydrated skin

Deep fissures that may bleed

Treatment / Home Remedies for Dry Skin

Severe or chronic dry skin problems may require a dermatologist’s attention for it may cause by some underlying illness.

Moisturizers:
One of the tested home remedy for dry skin is readily available in form of lotion and moisturizers, apply in dry skin areas at least twice daily. It provides a seal to the skin to keep water from escaping.

Baby Oil:
If your skin is extremely dry, baby oil is one of the best immediate home remedy for dry skin . It is best to apply after bathing while your skin is still moist. Oil stays more in the skin to retain its moisture than that of moisturizers.

Warm water:
Bathing with warm water is much better than hot shower since hot water removes oils in the skin. Use warm water in bathing and limit bathing time up to 15 minutes to avoid drying the skin.

Prevention for Dry Skin

Avoid harsh drying soaps
Use bath gels and cleansing cream in bathing
Use a humidifier in hot, dry indoor
Limit using perfumes since it irritates the skin
Pat dry skin after bathing rather than thoroughly drying

Diphtheria is caused by bacterial infection that can spread easily on the nose and throat areas. Mostly children under 5 years old and adults over 60 years old are more susceptible to this disease. Although this condition is rare in developed countries like United State, Canada and UK it is still common among developing countries. The last recorded occurrence of diphtheria outbreaks is on 1993-1994 in former Soviet Union countries.

Dry eye syndrome also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca is the state of the eye when its tear glands produce minimal or fewer tears. It is usually caused by a problem with the tear film that lubricates the eyes. This leads to drying out of eyes followed by inflammation.

Symptoms

Itching

Burning

Irritation

Redness

Excessive producing of tears

Blurred vision that can improves with series of blinking the eyes

Discomfort after long periods of reading, or working on a computer

Causes

The most common cause of this condition is the aging process, older people majority are women, who tend to have drier skin than men. The oil deficiency of oil in the eyes also affects the tear film. Without much oil to seal the watery layer, the tear film evaporates its moisture in rapid manner, leaving the areas on the cornea dry.

Other causes:

High altitudes
Air-conditioning
Cigarette smoke
Thyroid condition
Vitamin A deficiency
Hot, dry or windy climates
Side effect to medication (such as antidepressants, and antihistamines)

Some people also find their eyes become irritated when reading or working on a computer monitor.

Use of contact lenses can also cause dryness due to absorbance of the tear film by the lens, this causing to form proteins on the lens surface.

Women who are entering the menopausal ages can have frequent eye dryness due to hormonal changes

Treatment

Water:
Drink eight (8) or more glasses of water everyday this prevents dryness of the eyes

Artificial tears:
An eye drop, use as directed, it helps to maintain fluid in the eyes.

Bilberry Tea:
Help to facilitate delivery of essential oxygen and nutrients to the eye, drink 2 to 3 cups a day

Prevention

Eat healthy foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which include: walnuts, purslane, ground flax seeds, cod liver oil, cold-water fish that are typically low in mercury, such as wild salmon and sardines.

Avoid drinking coffee
Eat lots of green leafy vegetables
Avoid sugar and/or artificial sweeteners
Avoid air conditioning, smoke, and direct wind
Blink and rest your eyes at regular intervals
Use a humidifier in the winter if you live in an area that requires indoor heating

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a type of syndrome that caused by viruses transmitted from mosquitoes. Dengue is prevalent in tropical and sub-tropical areas of the world. Dengue is also called Thai, Philippine or Southeast Asian hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. Outbreaks of Dengue have occurred in the Caribbean, U.S. Virgin Islands, Cuba, and Central America. Some reported cases are contracted during travels imported by tourists returning from areas with known dengue outbreaks, like Tahiti, the South Pacific, Southeast Asia, West Indies, India, and the Middle East.

Causes

It is acquired if bitten by striped Aedes aegypti mosquito that has previously bitten an infected person. With just one bite of the Aedes mosquitos can inflict the disease.

The virus is not contagious and mode of transfer from person to person is through person-to-mosquito-to-another-person cycle.

Symptoms

Cough

Nausea

Vomiting

Headache

Sore throat

Abdominal pain

Continuous fever

Shock usually occurs two up to six days after the start of symptoms with sudden collapse, cool, clammy extremities, weak pulse, and blueness around the mouth.

Treatment

There is no available vaccine or drug available that specifically intended for dengue fever. However, there are numerous clinical researches specially conducted and focusing on developing a drug that can cure DHF.

Patients affected with DHF must be monitored closely for the first few days since shock suddenly may occur.

Immediate fluid replacement is required for vascular collapse. Blood transfusions may be necessary to control bleeding.

Neem (Azadiractha indica):
Prepare a Neem tonic, using leaves; apply in the body using warm damp cloth

Kakamachi:
In syrup form, consume two cups of the said product everyday

Basil Leaves:
Boil Basil leaves and drink as tea; it can help in prevention of dengue infection.

Prevention

Always drain stagnant waters in your surroundings
Rarely used gully traps must be covered most of the time.
Change water in flower vases every three (3) days
Use protective clothing if going to the areas with known outbreak
