Emesis
Emesis also called vomiting, is a condition wherein the stomach is force to expel its contents due to the contraction of stomach muscles. Sometimes, it may occur without expelling anything from your mouth. The patient can feel nauseous from time to time.
Symptoms of Emesis
Vomiting can be experience along with dizziness, lightheadedness, difficulty in swallowing food or liquid, rapid pulse, salivating, and changes in skin temperature.
Causes of Emesis
Vomiting is caused by a variety of conditions such as acute gastritis or reflux, cholera, flu, food poisoning, excessive alcohol consumption, intestinal obstruction, kidney failure, migraine, pregnancy, overeating, stomach upsets, and peptic and stomach ulcers.
Home Remedies / Treatment for Emesis
Ginger:
Drink a cup of ginger tea.
Honey:
Roast 2 cardamoms and mix it with honey.
Limejuice:
Mix 1 teaspoon mint juice, 1 teaspoon lime juice, ½ teaspoon ginger juice, and 1 teaspoon honey.
Onion:
Take 1 teaspoon of onion juice regularly.
Limejuice or honey:
Drink a glass of limejuice or sip a glass of honey water.
Cola:
Slowly sip on a glass of chilled cola.
Diet Suggestions for Emesis
For the first 12 hours after vomiting, abstain from solid foods and drink only water, apple juice, carbonated water and many others. Avoid dairy products and citrus juices.
For the next 12 hours, you are allowed to eat boiled rice or potatoes, creamless soup, bananas and apples.
After 24 hours, you are then allowed to eat dairy products, meat, drink non-fat milk and others.
