Veisalgia, the medical term for hangover, was derived from Norwegian word “kveis”, meaning “uneasiness following debauchery”, and Greek word “algia”, meaning “pain”. It describes a series of unpleasant after effects of excessive drug or liquor consumption, particularly alcoholic beverages.

Symptoms
Dry mouth, and the need to moisten the tongue and throat, painful throbbing in the head, sleepiness, drowsiness, swollen red eyes, nausea and vomiting are some of the conditions that are associated with hangover. There is also trouble adjusting the eyesight to daylight.

Causes
Excessive alcohol consumption causes body dehydration that leads to dry mouth and headaches.

Home Remedies
Water: Drink plenty of water before bedtime and after you wake up to hydrate from the alcohol consumption.

Vitamin C: Take vitamin c tablets to break down the alcoholic substance in your body.

Also, eat any kind of food while consuming alcohol to reduce its after-effects.

Other suggestions
Drinking alcohol on an empty stomach will worsen your condition. Eat some foods to absorb the alcoholic substances and quicken its digestion.

Eat some starchy foods as well to slow down the body’s alcoholic absorption.

Drink a max of one serving per hour.

Alternate your drinks from alcoholic to non-alcoholic liquids such as water so lessen the after-effect symptoms.

Try non-carbonated drinks, as the carbon content quickly absorbs the alcohol.

Avoid taking sweet-flavored beverage and foods while drinking for it will impede up your body’s perception of how much you’re consuming alcohol.
