Periodontitis
Periodontitis is a serious periodontal disease of the gums. Also known as Pyorrhoea, it is widely prevalent that affects the membrane surrounding the roots of the teeth. It leads to pus formation, gum shrinkage, and teeth loss for the adults.
Symptoms
The gums become tender and filled with pus that oozes out on the margin of the teeth when pressed. The pus from the cavities may find its way to the stomach.
In severe cases, the gums are swollen, sepsis appear in various forms, there is digestion and liver troubles and the stomach cannot function properly because of the pus. The whole body system is therefore infected.
Causes
‘Bacterial plaque’ are formed when unclean teeth formed a thin layer of harmful bacteria. It produces toxins that irritates, inflamed, and bleeds the gums. Low vitality may aggravate this condition.
Periodontitis can be acquired when gums are injured, improper brushing and usage of tooth pick, food particles stuck in between teeth are not removed, and thorough usage of chemicals that irritates the mouth.
Home Remedies / Treatment
Guava:
Guava is rich vitamin C and has styptic properties. Chew an unripe guava to stop the bleeding gums. Alternately, chewing guava leaves can also cure bleeding gums and makes the teeth strong and healthy. A mouthwash made from guava can also be used for swollen gums.
Lemon and lime:
Lemon and lime have high vitamin C content that strengthens the gums and teeth. They are also effective in the treatment and prevent of acute inflammation of gums.
Orange:
Eat oranges regularly or rub orange peels over the teeth and gums.
Pomegranate rind:
Mix dry pomegranate rind powder with pepper and common salt. Apply as a dentifrice regularly to stop the bleeding, strengthen gums and prevent pyorrhea.
Spinach juice:
Mix 125 ml each of spinach and carrot juices. Drink to improve teeth and gum health.
Lettuce:
Chew lettuce leaves everyday after meals.
Wheat:
Eat chapattis made of wheat to exercise the teeth and gums, and also to ease digestion.
Diets
Start treatment with a short juice diet for 3-5 days by drinking orange and carrot juices. Follow with a fruit diet for 5 days by eating 3 meals of succulent fruits a day.
Eat plenty of green salads, whole wheat bread, cheese, nuts, milk, fresh fruits, and properly cooked vegetables.
Avoid drinking alcohol, tea and coffee.
Avoid eating meat, white bread, white sugar, and all fleshy, refined and tinned foods.
Further Suggestions / Prevention
Administer a warm water enema everyday during the juice diet.
Apply dry friction and take a hipbath everyday.
Do breathing exercises every morning.
Take a hot Epsom salt bath twice a week.
