Ringing Ears

When a person hears a wide range of ringing or buzzing sound inside one or both of the ears that continue for hours or it may come and go it is called Ringing Ears or Tinnitus.

Types:

Objective tinnitus – the person and people around can hear the ringing inside the ears
Subjective tinnitus – a common case, only the patient himself can hear the noise.

In severe case of tinnitus, the patient will have difficulty in sleeping and concentrating.

Symptoms of Ringing Ears

The most common symptom of the tinnitus is the occurrence of a buzzing, hissing or ringing sound inside the ear. Sometimes, it goes along with the patient’s heartbeat. Individuals suffering from Meniere disease can also experience dizziness and hearing loss.

Causes of Ringing Ears

More frequent cases of tinnitus is the result of damaged microscopic endings to the nerve of the inner ear. Those that have prolonged exposure to loud noises are at risk of getting tinnitus. All four sections of the ear can be equally infected.

Subjective tinnitus may be caused due to some wax in the ear canal. Objective tinnitus may be caused due to some circulatory problem or some tumor in blood vessel. It may also be caused due to structural defects in the inner ear. Tinnitus may be a symptom of otosclerosis.

Other conditions that can cause tinnitus are allergic reaction, aging, diabetes, head and neck injury, high or low blood pressure, and taking certain medications such as aspirin, antidepressants, and sedatives.

Home Remedies / Treatment for Ringing Ears

Tinnitus is treated depending on their types or their causes. If the infection is caused by overexposure to loud noise, wear a mask or earplugs. If it is caused by taking certain medications, alleviate the underlying condition first before proceeding to heal the ear infection.

Avoid stress by taking breath exercises such as deep breathing.

Place 20-40 mg of maidenhair tree or ginkgo bilboa extract in the infected ears. Do this for 4-6 weeks to dilate the blood vessels and stimulate blood flow to the ears.

Diets Suggestions for Ringing Ears

Avoid dairy products, sugar, salt and processed foods for they contain saturated fats that can further aggravate the condition.

Avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, and sweets for they lower blood sugar levels.
Eat plenty of protein-rich foods and fresh fruits and raw vegetables.
Eat foods that are rich in chlorine, zinc and vitamins A, B and E.

Quit smoking
Avoid drinking alcoholic drinks
Perform physical exercises everyday to improve blood circulation.

Ringworm

Ringworm is a common skin disease caused by a certain type of fungus that grows on the skin.

Symptoms
There is an appearance of ringworm patches on the body that are usually round or oval. They have an elevated pink and scaly rings that is cleared in the middle. When infected were scratched, the itchiness spreads through the nails to the other part of the body.

Infection may come in chronic form if not treated properly.

Causes
Infection usually occurs on the scalp, nails, body and the feet. It is more commonly found on children for they lack the presence of protective fatty acids in their scalp. It can spread deeper in the skin to the hair roots that results to dull hair and hair breakage near the roots. It can also leave a bald spot on the scalp.

This disease is highly contagious and is easily transmitted through direct and indirect contact.

Home Remedies
Papaya: Rub papaya slices on infected patches or apply paste made from dried papaya seeds.

Mustard: Make a paste from mustard seeds. Apply on patches and rinse well with hot water.

Butea seeds: Ground into butea seeds into a fine powder then mix little amount of limejuice to make a paste. Apply on the infected area.

Cassia leaves: Apply cassia juice and paste to affected area to alleviate swelling and relieve irritation and pains.

Holy basil: Make a juice extract from holy basil leaves and apply it on the patches.

Turmeric: Apply turmeric juice on the patches or take 1 teaspoon of turmeric juice mixed with 1 teaspoon honey.

Vegetable juices: Mix 300 ml of carrot juice and 200 ml of spinach juice to make ½ liter of these juices. Drink accordingly.

Diets
Start with a fruit diet for 5 days to eliminate toxic wastes from the body. Each day, eat 3 meals of fresh succulent fruits such as apples, oranges, papayas, pineapples and pomegranates every 5 hours. Eat fruits, raw or steamed vegetables with whole-wheat Indian flatbreads after the diet. Consume curd and milk for a few days afterwards.

Eat plenty of wholegrain cereals, seeds, nuts, fresh fruits raw or lightly cooked vegetables.
Avoid coffee, tea, white sugar and white flour products, condiments, and all canned or bottled foods.

Further Suggestions
Administer a warm water enema everyday during the fruit diet.

Drink plenty of water and take bath twice daily. Before bathing, vigorously rub the skin with the palms of the hands aside from the parts affected with ringworm.

Stay in places with fresh air as much as possible.

Applying coconut oil on the affected part will make the skin softer.

Take a sunbath early in the morning, preferably at the crack of dawn.

Apply a light mudpack on the affected area for 30 minutes. Do it twice daily.

Rheumatism

Rheumatism, (from the Greek word “rheuma” which means ‘swelling’) is an acute or chronic pain and swelling of the muscles, ligaments or tendons, and the joints.

Symptoms
Acute rheumatism is characterized fever, intense soreness and pain. Muscular rheumatism makes even the lightest object feel heavier, such as clothing. If not treated properly, it may accelerate into chronic rheumatism.

Meanwhile, chronic rheumatism include pain and muscle stiffness. Symptoms for chronic articular rheumatism (joints) are joint stiffness and pain accompanied by swelling.

Causes
Primary cause is the presence of toxic matter in the blood. This can be contracted when consuming meat, sugar, refined cereals and white bread in liberal quantity. Low vitality makes the bones and joints prone to intoxication.

Infection of the teeth, tonsils and gallbladder may also escalate to rheumatism. Exposure to cold weather aggravates the condition.

Home Remedies
Potato: Mash raw potatoes to make 1-2 teaspoons of potato juice. Take it before meals. Another remedy is to wash 30 gm of potato peels thoroughly. Boil it in ½ liter of water until it is reduced to a half. Strain then drink 1 glass of the decoction 3-4 times daily. Potato skin is rich in mineral salts that help eliminate the toxic matter from the body.

Bitter Gourd: Mix 1 cup of bitter gourd juice with 1 teaspoon of honey. Take it daily. Continue treatment for 3 months.

Celery: Put 5-10 drops of celery juice extracted from its seeds in hot water. Take it before meals. Powdered seeds can be mixed as a condiment.

Lemon: Drink lemon juice extracted from 2-3 lemons.

Walnut: Eat ½ dozen of thoroughly masticated walnuts daily.

Rhubarb: Pound rhubarb and mix with equal quantity of sugar. Take a teaspoon 3-4 a day.

Diets
Undergo a short orange juice and water diet for 3-4 days. Follow with a restricted diet for 14 days. This should consist of orange and grapefruit for breakfast; raw salad made from seasonal vegetables mixed with dates, figs, raisins and prunes for lunch; and 1 or 2 steamed vegetables for dinner.

Eat plenty of grains, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables afterwards.

For chronic cases, undergo a fruit diet for 4-5 days. Eat plenty of ripe fruits and fresh vegetables and drink buttermilk after it.

Avoid drinking alcohol, tea and coffee.

Avoid meat, fish, sauces, pickles, condiments, refined cereals, white bread and sugary products, indigestible and highly seasoned foods.

Further Suggestions
For acute rheumatism, administer a warm water enema everyday while under the juice diet.

Apply a hot pack; take a hot bath, a sauna bath, dry friction, or a sponge bath if desired.

For chronic rheumatism, take a hot Epsom salt bath twice a week for 3 months. Do it once a week after. Wash affected parts in hot water mixed with Epsom salt 2 times a day. Apply olive oil afterwards.

Perform light exercises such as deep breathing, and take plenty of fresh air for speedy recovery.

Avoid staying in cold and humid places.
