Sinusitis
Sinusitis is bacterial, fungal, or viral infection characterized by the inflammation of the mucous membrane lining the paranasal sinuses. Patients with sinusitis general suffer from common cold, influenza and other infections.
Symptoms
Symptoms associated with sinusitis are runny nose, headache and pressure around the head, eyes, and face, blockage of one or both nostrils, and constant sneezing. Headaches usually occur on the forehead and below the eyes.
They might also suffer from difficulty in breathing, loss of appetite, and mild fever.
Causes
Sinusitis is mainly caused by the over secretion of the mucous membranes along the lining of the nose and throat and as well as the inflammation of the sinus.
Home Remedies
Mango: Take liberal amount of mangoes. They are rich in vitamin A that helps form healthy epithelium and is an excellent for treatment and prevention of sinusitis
Garlic and onion: Use garlic and onion when cooking meals. Begin with small amount and gradually increase it for more effective results.
Fenugreek: Boil 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in 250 ml water until it is reduced to a half. Take 4 cup daily. Reduce intake if the condition improves. It will help the body to perspire, eliminate toxins and shortens acute cases of fever.
Cumin seeds: Wrap 1 teaspoon of black cumin seeds in a thin cotton cloth. Inhale aroma coming from the cloth. Another remedy is to mix 100 gm of grounded and roasted cumin seeds with 200 gm of honey.
Vegetable juices: Mix 100 ml each of beet and cucumber juices, or 200 ml of spinach juice with 300 ml of carrot juice.
Vitamin A: Take 25,000 IU of vitamin A supplements everyday or from food sources such as carrots, mangoes, papaya, tomatoes, pumpkin, egg yolk, curd, milk and leafy vegetables.
Vitamin C: Take 2 doses of 500 mg vitamin C tables everyday.
Diets
For acute cases, abstain from solid food. Drink equal parts fresh fruit and vegetables juices diluted in warm water. Take a low-calorie diet consisting of raw fruits and vegetables, and raw juices once the fever subsides. Eat plenty of grains, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables afterwards.
For chronic cases, repeat short juice diet for a week or more every 2 months.
Avoid rice, white sugar, white flour, pasta, cakes, candies, pies, and fried and starchy foods.
Further Suggestions
Take alternate hot and cold applications. To do this, wash face with hot water. Splash with cold water one at a time.
Inhale steam from hot water for 5 minutes every hour.
Take plenty of sleep and rest.
Take as much fresh air as possible.
Avoid using artificial fragrances and hair oil with strong scents.
