  • Keep Your Gallbladder Healthy Naturally

    (1) Comment
Posted by Remedy Solution on 4th, 2009

Recently I had a friend who had gallstones and said it was one of the most painful experiences she ever had.  Hopefully this will help to prevent others from having gallstones or other related problems.

The Gallbladder and What It Does

The gallbladder is that small pouch nestled behind the lobes of the liver. Pear-shaped, the gallbladder is responsible for storing bile that is being secreted by the liver. As you must know bile is what aids the body in digesting fats. If the gallbladder becomes unable to store fats, the ability of the body to digest fats is compromised.

    Predisposing Factors to Gallbladder Problems

Unfortunately, the gallbladder can also be prone to ill health. Diabetes, pregnancy, liver disease, obesity, lack of exercise, a diet rich in fats, and anemia can predispose you to certain gallbladder problems.

    The Symptoms

You will know if you have gallbladder problems if you experience pain in your abdomen. The pain is usually acute or intermittent in nature. You are also likely to experience nausea, a feeling of fullness especially after meals, gas pains, and indigestion. There may be yellowing of the skin, too, and constipation. Skin breakouts, such as acne and other skin lesions, may likewise occur. There could also be intolerance to fats.

    The Cure

Fortunately, there are several home treatments you can use, and you will be surprised to know that some of them involve basic garden and pantry items.

Beets are said to be effective in treating gallbladder problems. A body cleanser, the juice of fresh beets, if combined with the juice of fresh carrots and cucumber, and taken twice a day, can effectively improve gallbladder health. Pear juice, too, can be used to treat certain gallbladder problems, including gallstones. Pear juice can be taken as often as possible.

Chicory juice facilitates bile secretion, and thus helps much in maintaining good liver and gallbladder health.

Accordingly, taking 30 ml of olive oil followed by 120 ml of lemon or grapefruit juice early in the morning for as long as necessary works for some people.

Recent studies correlate regular drinking of coffee to gallstone prevention, although it has not been made clear yet what is the special ingredient in coffee that reduces incidence of gallstones.

Having a diet rich in fiber can also prevent the occurrence of gallstones. It is therefore recommended that you eat cereals or other fiber-rich foods for breakfast. Skipping this very important meal of the day is a definite no-no if you want to achieve a healthy gallbladder. There have been reports of people getting more prone to gallstones and other gallbladder diseases when they skip breakfast.

Having an abundance of lentils, beans, nuts, and oranges in the diet can also help ward off gallstones, so is eating red bell better, salmon, and vegetables.

As they say, prevention is always better than cure, so if you want to avoid getting sick of gallstones, avoid taking in too much fats and sugar, always include fiber, fruits, and vegetables in your diet, and exercise. Remember that a sedentary lifestyle puts you at greater risk for developing gallstones, so engage in activities that keep your blood pumping. Obesity is likewise a predisposing factor to gallbladder problems, and exercising regularly can help you deal achieve a trim and balanced figure as well.

    Re-Hydrate Naturally

Posted by Remedy Solution on 11th, 2009

Dehydration, as you must know, can happen to anyone. It usually happens when water leaving the body is greater than the amount being taken in. Losing water is actually normal because you lose water when you breathe, when you sweat, when you urinate, or when you move your bowels. However, losing water becomes unfavorable to your health when it is excessive, as what occur in vomiting, diarrhea, too much sweating, burns, and diabetes. In such cases, not only water is lost, but electrolytes as well.

You know when you are suffering from dehydration when you experience the following signs and symptoms: thirst, decreased urine output and concentrated urine. When the dehydration progresses, you may also experience dry mouth, lightheadedness, muscle cramps, confusion, weakness, and if the situation worsens, coma. As you can see, you simply cannot take dehydration for granted.

Replacement of fluids is essential in treating dehydration. Most likely, you will be advised to drink not just clear water, but other forms of clear fluids as well. Clear soup, Gatorade, Jell-o, Pedialyte, and the like, may also work well. You can also come up with your own electrolyte water. All you have to do is mix a quart of water with ½ teaspoon each of baking soda and salt, and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Alternatively, you can mix a cup of water with a teaspoon of salt, three teaspoons of sugar, and two teaspoons of lime juice.

It is also a good thing to nibble on some bananas, because bananas have rich potassium content, and as you must know, great amount of potassium is lost with dehydration. Another fruit that is rich in potassium is raisin. Eating raisins during bouts of dehydration helps to restore the potassium you have lost. You should also eat plenty of watery fruits and vegetables, like cantaloupe, water melon, strawberries, and cucumber. Drinking decaffeinated tea also works well if you have dehydration. It’s important to emphasize, though, to use decaffeinated and not the caffeinated kind because caffeine has a mild diuretic effect, thus it increases you water loss.

Quite possibly, you will experience stomach cramps. It is a normal occurrence with dehydration. In the event that you suffer from an episode of stomach cramps, eat foods that are easily digested. Gelatins and soda crackers are stomach-friendly.

It is normal, too, to experience muscle aches and pains. To relieve yourself of this, mix eight ounces of apple cider vinegar to your warm bath, and soak yourself in it for at least 15 minutes.

A great and easy way to restore fluids to dehydrated children is to have them suck on popsicles.

For mild dehydration, you can mix a teaspoon of lime juice, pinch of salt, and a teaspoon of sugar into one pint of water, then drink this throughout the day. Drinking fruit juices can also help. Fruit juices, after all, are rich in vitamins and minerals, so you not only restore the fluids lost from your body, you are also, in turn, boosting your energy levels.

Nature’s Way To Treat Seborrheic Dermatitis

    (4) Comments
Posted by Home Remedies Solution on 4th, 2009

You have noticed something flaky in your scalp, and you think it is just simple dandruff — it could be, but it could also mean a bad case of seborrheic dermatitis. In children, it simply means cradle cap.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin disorder that causes some flaking on the scalp. Some call it dandruff, but it could actually be more than that.

    The Causes of Seborrheic Dermatitis

The main cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not known, although several factors have been linked to the development of this skin disorder. Abnormal production of oil glands, stress, and fatigue, and illness, are said to be related to the incidence of this disease.

    The Symptoms

Seborrheic dermatitis is not contagious nor is it harmful. However, it can get pretty uncomfortable and unsightly because it sometimes affects the face and other oily parts of the body, causing red greasy skin with white or yellow scales. There is also some degree of itchiness and pain.

    The Cure

Unfortunately, there is no known cure for seborrheic dermatitis, but doctors usually recommend the use of shampoo containing ketoconazole, tar, salicylic acid, and selenium sulfide, to relieve the symptoms. If you have a non-scalp seborrheic dermatitis, such as one that appears on your face or upper chest, you are most likely to be advised to use anti-itch creams or anti-fungal solutions on the affected areas.

Then again, you can also resort to natural remedies to ease the problem.

Sometimes, the natural way to dealing with seborrheic dermatitis lies in the diet. A diet that is rich in saturated fats, or one involving processed sugar, can trigger an attack, so avoid eating these. Instead, include a lot of fiber in the diet because fiber helps to eliminate the growth of candida which can increase histamine activity resulting to seborrheic dermatitis flare-ups. Green vegetables, like broccoli and spinach are great to munch on as these are rich in minerals and fiber.

It is also advisable that you eat foods rich in Vitamin B because Vitamin B is good for the skin and hair. Bananas, grains, egg yolks, avocados, and nuts, contain a good amount of Vitamin B.

Since the abnormal production of oil glands is a contributing factor to seborrheic dermatitis, another useful home remedy should involve zinc, a substance that helps in the regulation of the production of oil glands. Zinc can be found in abundance in sardines, sunflower seeds, and grains.

Rubbing the scalp with a piece of onion also helps to reduce dandruff, so are rinsing the hair with vinegar or tea tree oil. Alternatively, you can also apply on the scalp a mixture of 20 drops of tea tree oil and 10 ounces of aloe vera gel on the scalp daily for around 15 minutes.

The maintenance of good hygiene is essential in dealing with the symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis. Shampoo daily and cleanse your scalp on a regular basis. Harsh soaps and detergents are a definite no-no, so use mild-scented soaps at all times, then wear cotton clothing as much as possible.

    1. Great advice on the veggies vs saturated fats and sugars –people will feel better after a diet change like that even if they aren’t battling any skin problems.

I’m curious about the rubbing of the onion, especially since I’m not aware of any constituents in it that are also found in vinegar and tea tree oil. I know these last two are often found in storebought treatments, but I’ve never seen onion shampoo…maybe that’s a marketing problem though. ;)
